Domain Troubleshooting
This page covers solutions for common issues with custom domain configuration.
Web Domain Issues
404 Error on Web Domain
- Verify that a Default Agency is configured in the Console domain settings.
- Ensure a Portal is created and assigned in the Agency app under Admin > Portals.
- Check that the domain alias type (Portal vs Dashboard) matches your intended use.
SSL Handshake Failed
- Verify the SSL Validation TXT record exists in both the Console and your DNS provider.
- Verify the Acme Challenge CNAME record exists in both the Console and your DNS provider.
- Check that the domain shows "Active" status in the Console.
Portal vs Dashboard Aliases
- Portal -- routes to public case interfaces intended for clients and the public
- Dashboard -- routes to internal analytics views intended for staff
Ensure the alias type selected when creating the domain matches how you intend to use it.
Multiple Portals with Same Domain
Multiple portals can share the same domain using wildcard domain configuration. This requires assistance from the eCourtDate support team. Contact help@ecourtdate.com to set this up.
Email Domain Issues
Cannot Receive Inbound Email
- Without MX records configured, your domain can send outbound email but cannot receive inbound email.
- Add MX records to your DNS to enable inbound email. See DNS Records for details.
- Using MX records on your main domain is not recommended, as it would conflict with your existing email infrastructure. Use a subdomain (e.g.,
email.agency.gov) for inbound email instead.
Email Deliverability
- Ensure SPF, DKIM, and DMARC authentication records are configured in your DNS.
- Unlimited email addresses can be created per verified domain.
- Authentication records help prevent your messages from being flagged as spam.
General Issues
Validation Timeout (7 Days)
Verification records expire if the domain is not verified within 7 days. To resolve:
- Contact support at help@ecourtdate.com to request domain regeneration.
- Re-add the new DNS records provided by the Console after regeneration.
DNS Propagation Delays
- Most DNS changes propagate within a few minutes to 2 hours.
- In some cases, propagation can take up to 24 hours.
- Use online DNS lookup tools (such as dnschecker.org) to verify that your records are visible.
Domain Modification
Domains can be modified through the Console. Be aware that DNS updates and temporary disruption to email delivery or web access may occur during changes.
