Domain Setup
This page covers the setup process for both email and web custom domains.
Email Domain Setup
Setting up a custom email domain involves three steps.
Step 1 -- Add the Domain in Console
- Navigate to the Console and open the Domains section.
- Click "Add Email Domain".
- Enter a name, your domain (e.g.,
email.agency.gov), and select a region.
Step 2 -- Configure DNS Records
- Download the DNS records provided by the Console after domain creation.
- Add the following records in your DNS provider:
- Verification TXT -- proves domain ownership
- DMARC TXT -- configures email authentication policy
- SPF TXT -- authorizes eCourtDate to send email on your behalf
- MX records (optional) -- required only if you want to receive inbound email on this domain
See DNS Records for detailed instructions and provider-specific guides.
Step 3 -- Create Email Addresses
- In the Agency app, go to Admin > Settings > Agency Emails tab.
- Create email addresses under your verified domain.
Option A -- Existing Domain
If you are using your existing main domain (e.g., agency.gov):
- Only TXT verification records are required.
- Your current email workflows remain unchanged.
- Inbound email continues to route to your existing provider unless forwarding is explicitly configured.
Option B -- Subdomain
If you are using a subdomain (e.g., email.agency.gov):
- MX record configuration is required for inbound email.
- Avoids conflicts with your primary email infrastructure.
- Recommended approach for most agencies.
Web Domain Setup
Setting up a custom web domain involves five steps.
Step 1 -- Add the Domain in Console
- Navigate to the Console and open the Domains section.
- Click "Add Web Domain".
- Enter a name, your domain (e.g.,
portal.agency.gov), and select:- Alias type -- Portal or Dashboard
- Region
- Verification method -- TXT verification is recommended
Step 2 -- Configure DNS Records
Add the DNS records provided by the Console to your DNS provider. See DNS Records for detailed instructions and provider-specific guides.
Step 3 -- Update Domain Agency Settings
In the Console, configure the domain settings:
- Default Agency -- the agency that this domain routes to
- Enabled Agencies -- additional agencies allowed to use this domain
- Monitoring contacts -- email addresses to receive uptime alerts
Step 4 -- Verify Domain Status
Monitor the domain status in the Console. The domain should show "Active" status once all DNS records have propagated and verification is complete. Allow up to 24 hours for DNS propagation.
Step 5 -- Create a Portal
- In the Agency app, go to Admin > Portals.
- Select the verified domain.
- Create and configure your portal.
